MEETING NOTES

Meeting commenced at 7:50pm

Attendance: Beeman(E), Neithammer(E), Odden(P), Runta(E), Supelak(P), Uhas Sauer(P), Young(P)

Commissioners Hegley and Volkmann were present.

  1. Proposed bylaws change: Odden proposed changed text for 4.a:

Current: Distribute a monthly Commission activity fact sheet on Commission activity;

Redline: Distribute a monthly Commission activity fact sheet periodic bulletin on Commission activity and upcoming meeting dates;

Clear: Distribute a periodic bulletin on Commission activity and upcoming meeting dates;

No vote was taken. Odden will consult with Governance Chair Hegley on inclusion in an upcoming Governance agenda.

  1. Proposed establishment of an ad hoc conference committee: Odden brought a draft motion to establish an ad hoc committee to plan, organize and execute a conference in 2016. Discussion concluded that an exploratory study committee is the best first step. A revised motion was created:

The Community Relations Committee of the University Area Commission recommends the establishing of an ad hoc committee for the purpose of studying the feasibility of a conference.
a. The proposed committee shall study the feasibility of a conference.
b. The theme of the conference to be considered is “life near a university.”
c. The proposed committee will number no fewer than five members.
d. The proposed committee will have the authority to study the feasibility of a conference.
e. The proposed committee is subject to Article V, Section 1 of the University Area Commission bylaws.

Above motion proposed by Odden; Supelak seconded.
Vote: Odden(Y); Supelak(Y); Uhas Sauer(Y); Young(Y).

  1. Commissioner Young indicated the need for Commissioner training, including the verification that Commissioners were receiving, among other things, City of Columbus – provided training. Discussion included consideration of the roles of Governance and Community Relations in creating and delivering training. This topic will figure centrally in the October Community Relations Agenda.
