2013 Commissioner Elections: Meet the Candidates

Below are official statements provided by the candidates running for open district seats on the University Area Commission.

Gena Shelton, District 2
25 W. Ramlow Alley, Columbus, OH 43202

My husband and I purchased our home in the district in 2006. We are raising our Daughter and two rescue dogs in the neighborhood. We love it and are committed to keeping it a great place to live and raise a family.

My professional background is in working with government entities and I use this experience to work with the city to address neighborhood needs.

I look forward t continuing my service on the UAC.

Jim Bach, District 3
1475 Summit Street, Columbus, OH 43201

I am a longtime (fourteen years) resident of the university area and I have been an employee of The Ohio State University for sixteen years. I have been actively involved in neighborhood issues and groups for the majority of my residence in the area. I have extensive past and current involvements in the Weinland Park community and want to help foster a greater commonality between residents of various neighborhoods in the university area. I believed shared goals are the key to improving the area.

Ethan Hansen, District 4
117 King Ave., Columbus, OH 43201

I am currently serving on the University Area Commission, having filled an unoccupied seat this summer. I am a homeowner in the area and want to make the area greener and more livable. I believe strongly in smart growth – the future of our city lies in the urban core with local businesses and walkable neighborhoods. I also believe that Columbus has lost too much of its history and its historic buildings. It is our duty to preserve what we have left.
